When making plans, it’s important before taking any action to see the big picture.

I’ve been recently talking with a CMO friend about wanting to start a consulting business and rebrand my newsletter and website.

In order to hash out a plan, she wanted me to take note of my goals and the ventures I was running by consolidating all the parts.

Beforehand, I had a more siloed approach in how I should take strategy.

But after having everything written out on a whiteboard, a lot of connection points revealed themselves, and I had a more clear idea of how I should take action to achieve my goals.

By seeing the bigger picture, I could act knowing the reality of circumstances, and plan steps towards the goals I had.

Greetings from Dallas! 👋 Let’s jump right in!

As you’ve noticed, I’ve changed up the format a little bit for the newsletter! I’m slowly stripping parts away as I aim to transform this newsletter to align with my purpose and goals.

With that, there are three main updates I have:

• Savvy Saturdays will go on hiatus for the month of December. In other words, I’m taking my first break in 2 years! It’s wild for me to do this, but this is important in order for me to fulfill my second update.

• I am rebranding my newsletter! As I’m aligning with my purpose and goals, I’m going to be changing how things are shared. Savvy Saturdays will be for business stuff, and I will have a separate personal newsletter that I will update sporadically for those of y’all who are interested in it (moreso geared towards family/friends). If you’re interested in this more personal newsletter, please reply to me on it, or fill out the last section of the survey!

• With the rebrand, I’m doing a $20 gift card giveaway that I’m running when you fill out this survey, both to help me better know y’all and to help me with my rebrand!

Main updates aside, I’ve been able to spend quality time this past week with family and friends. Driving, hanging out, and cooking for 3 Friendsgiving was a lot, but it was quality time with quality peeps.

Savvy Idea: Figuring out who your audience can help you strategically write to their needs and problems.

Who I write to influences how I share my thoughts and insights.

Rather than aimlessly writing, by thinking of a specific person in mind, I can write towards their specific needs.

Whether it’s to an entrepreneur, someone earlier in faith, or a younger version of myself, I always try to think of one person I want to write to.

I’ve found that knowing my audience helps me create more impact through what I share, and ensures an effective message is communicated to help that audience work towards their goals and improve their lives.

Greetings from Austin! 👋 Let’s jump right in!

Lots happened this past week:

• Hiked near Lake Travis with my church’s life group

• Learned to golf for the first time 🏌️‍♂️

• Networked at Capital Factory for F.I.E.S.T.A.

• Previewed an entrepreneurial friend’s studio to see their Twitch Stream setup

• Outreached again on the UT campus

• Hung out with several friends downtown for lunch

• Brainstormed with an entrepreneur friend on my own branding and content strategy - I will be taking steps in the next month or so to rebrand content, and may take a break (not yet though), so be on the lookout for that!

Savvy Idea: Grouping tasks of similar work increases productivity and efficiency.

An important concept I learned within programming that helps me be efficient is batching—the idea of grouping similar tasks so you do them all at once, rather than switching between tasks.

Switching tasks takes up energy because you need to switch contexts.

By reducing the number of contexts you switch, the more you’re able to focus and complete the tasks at hand.

And this concept is not only important in programming, but in productivity and daily life.

I try and apply this in many contexts:

• Tuesday evenings I work on writing out newsletters ahead of time.

• Morning and evening, I try to check and respond to emails once.

• On Saturday afternoons, I try to work on church-related stuff.

By doing this, I don’t have to worry about other tasks and can have my full attention on each given group of tasks.

• I experience imposter syndrome participating in a conversation to bring a holistic inclusive entrepreneurship community to the Texas area

• My life group did outreach on campus using donuts to incite deep questions.

I’ve been reading a book called Faith Driven Entrepreneur and have been recently challenged on the difference between stewardship vs. ownership. There’s a completely different mindset you have when you are stewarding something someone has given you, versus owning something.

If God really gave us everything to steward, then we would give more generously in helping and loving others. If you can be praying for me to have a practical stewardship mindset, that would be appreciated! And if you have any prayer requests, let me know. 🙏

Savvy Idea: Assess the highs and lows in life order to do a temperature check to find things to celebrate and things to improve.

It’s easy to go through the motions of projects, circumstances, and life, and not think about what’s coming next.

I’ve found that finding time to stop and doing a temperature check is so important.

If you don’t know where you’re at, how will you know what’s going well and what’s needing improvement?

• We need to address the highs in order to create a culture of celebration.

• And we need to address the lows in order to be real and assess the things that aren’t going well

This applies in all areas.

• At work, we do company retros in order to learn, celebrate and create action items.

• In my church bible study, we use those questions in order to share where we’re at, praise God for the things He’s doing, and pray over the difficulties that are faced

• With my side hustles, every once in a while, I assess my energy and work ethic and see what I should continue doing, and what habits do I need to change to push forward the objective of my hustles.

Without assessing highs and lows, there is no clarity of where to stand, and joy and improvement are hard to have.

Hello friends,

Greetings from Austin! 👋 Let’s jump right in!

I’m not sure why but the end of Oct./early Nov. seems to be the busiest time. I feel like I haven’t been able to get a good moment to rest, but each moment of my life is filled to the brim with activities I’m not used to doing.

As someone who’s never had a car for 24 years, I can attest that having a car is such a blessing. Even though the cost of gas is so high, it makes things so much more convenient.

Being able to meet up with friends, visit people’s homes, go into the office, and more has made me learn to not only appreciate my car, but recognize the privilege and opportunity a car brings.

Even being able to drive students back to their dorms, go grocery shopping together for people, or help someone run an errand has made me blessed by more ways I can serve others.

Even though I still commute and ride my bike around (can’t help but get that exercise), I think having a car (an adulting) will become an integral part of my life.

Savvy Idea: Set your one thing to focus on for the week so you can prioritize and make the week a win.

Recently, I started to implement a weekly routine to figure out one thing that would define success if I completed it for the week.

This routine has helped me tremendously in making progress in focusing and planning.

I find that even going through the process helps organize my tasks and helps me prioritize so that after I finish my one thing, I know what next task I should try to complete.

I didn’t come up with this on my own though.

This was inspired by the book, The One Thing, written by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan.

As someone who is trying to create more discipline in life, this method has definitely helped me measure out my energy and not take too big of a bite out of the endless tasks I have to do while being able to find satisfaction weekly when I complete the one thing.

This past week I definitely needed to take my own advice to schedule rest.

I packed my schedule spending time with a lot of people that I ended up not having much alone time to destress or finish up work, ending with lots of late nights.

Of course, some of those late nights, I ended up watching movies, because YouTube kept giving recommendations of movie recaps in 15-20 mins, and that fed my hunger for story, so I watched:

• Moneyball (1st time) - love the aspects of leadership, difficulty building and maintaining a team, as well as making decisions on what’s important in life.

• Knives Out (2nd time) - a beautiful masterpiece of a movie with the right level of tension, mystery, and drama.

• As well as The Platform (1st time) with some friends - an interesting movie that left me with more questions than answers.

Savvy Idea: Blocking out time to rest ensures you will be able to have energy amidst the never-ending list of tasks life throws at you.

We live in a world where busyness is a badge of honor to wear.

No one really has time to take a “break” and there seems no end to do, do, do.

But busyness is a dangerous rhythm to have.

It can become a symptom of laziness, ineffectiveness, or an inability to prioritize.

Rather than allowing busyness to take over our lives, it’s important to schedule rest.

We can only do as much as the energy we have, and rest is one of the best ways to have more energy to be focused on what needs to be done.

Set aside time to do the things you need to do to rejuvenate energy.

• Take a small nap, post-lunch.

• Add in a walk in the middle of the day.

• Read a book in the quietness of the morning or night.

You don’t want your body to force you to rest by shutting down.

There will always be an endless bucket of tasks that need to be completed, so rest will always need to be prioritized.

By blocking out time to rest, you will have more energy to take care of important things you need to do.

• Had an in-person retreat for the college ministry of my church, gaining insight & breakthrough in faith, and finding myself challenged in leadership.

• Got to work in person at the RetailMeNot office!

• Got to participate in a networking event for entrepreneurs, founders, and investors by Fiesta @ Capital Factory.

• Made dog treat cookies from 4 ingredients—pumpkin puree, whole wheat flour, peanut butter, and eggs.

• Enjoyed a night market and Asian showcases on the UT campus.

Savvy Idea: There is no such thing as perfection. Only improvement towards mastery. Trust in the process, and enjoy it.

When I started fleshing out a strategy for my podcast, I spent a lot of time thinking of the ideal end product.

My standard and taste were greater than where I was in reality, and I desired perfection.

The difference between where I’m at and where I want to achieve results in disappointment.

I’ve come to learn that though having an end goal is great and striving for it is good, improvement and mastery take time.

Good things take time to slowly be built up, and though there are some ways to shorten the process such as reading books and learning from people who’ve already paved the path, I’ve come to realize the need to enjoy the process.

Achieving a goal feels good, but there are so many moments that are sweet that I don’t want to miss out:

• the firsts when learning something new

• understanding new concepts

• meeting new people

• exploring a new strategy

• finding transferrable skills and ideas

Rather than fixating on the feeling of achievement, I’ve come to appreciate the beauties in the process.

Naturally, I’ve found it to be much better when appreciating the process, to find productivity, focusing on each small step while I enjoy it.

• Finished up a lot of testing on our software systems for the holidays

• Prepared for my church’s undergraduate retreat for the students this weekend

• Went on a mini-trip to get baked goods and have dinner with some friends

I’ve been meeting with product managers in order to learn principles of product management, and one of the most important things I’ve learned is the importance of saying no.

Within product, people will always bring requests to the table.

A new feature.

An interesting idea.

A “necessary” improvement.

No matter how many requests come to the table, a product manager must learn to balance the requests, push past any pressure they feel from stakeholders, and learn to say no.

When a product manager says yes to a request that isn’t as important, the time, energy, and resources poured into that request will not be able to be focused on an actual priority.

By saying yes to one thing, the product manager inevitably says no to many other things.

Because of this, it’s impacted how I view everything that comes my way.

As someone who loves to say yes to things, rather than accepting semi-good opportunities, it’s made me more careful with filtering through anything that comes to the table in my life.

Only when I resonate with something that aligns with my values, main priorities, or convictions will I say yes to it.

• What are opportunities on the table that are not an instant yes to you, and you should say no to?

An amazing blog post giving direction and an outlet towards people who may be feeling burnout, and what to do in order to escape it. Elena Salaks shares vulnerably about her own experience with it and steps she takes in order to give clarity to why she does what she does.

I work in tech, I’m a parent, and I’m struggling with burnout.

If I’m honest, I’ve been running on fumes for a while. But there were enough milestones along the way to keep chasing that next moment of reprieve. The vacation. The promotion. The vaccine. The remodel.

But then the fumes ran out. And a bunch of life things hit at once, and I couldn’t see any reprieve in my horizon.

…

Once I accepted that yes, maybe I really am feeling this burnout thing everyone is talking about; I knew I had to be intentional in making a change around things that were giving me chronic stress.

Here’s what I did:

• I figured out what I wanted and wrote it down so I don’t get lost again.

• I asked for feedback to make sure my burnout wasn’t clouding my judgement.

• I asked for what I wanted.

This past week, I finally set up a platform for my podcast!

I’m still hashing out the podcast cover, but here are two of the covers I have set for it. Let me know which one you like better, and why!

Aside from that, I’ve been feeling a bit of routineness with life. I think it’s a passing feeling, but I think part of it is because of lack of sleep, as well as feeling repetitiveness of life.

In order to combat it, I’ve been asking people for prayer for a softened heart, as well as been on the lookout for a new mattress and frame as well as a standing desk. Hopefully improving my quality of life will improve my energy.

Savvy Idea: Choosing when to speak, and when to listen, can prove effective to your impact and care for others.

Many times, it feels easy to hand out advice to other people, or give them our own insight.

But sometimes, it may be as effective to lean in, listen, and ask questions.

I was listening to a friend share recently, and felt the impulse to give my two cents of advice to them, but as they shared, I noticed that they were in a place where they had a lot on their mind, and needed someone to help sort the chaos in their mind.

And when I’m in a place like that, I need less information, and someone to help and process.

With that, I decided to ask them questions instead of giving into my impulse to share.

Though handing out advice would’ve been easier, asking questions had a deeper impact on them, and gave them greater takeaways.

I find that the times it feels good to speak up are actually best times to withhold, listen, and ask question.

• Was there a time when a family, friend, or coworker needed you to help them process and listen, rather than hear advice?

This past week has been crazy, juggling responsibilities with ministry, work, and career. I had a moment of sadness last weekend as I wrestled with emotions of being overwhelmed, and over time, was able to experience a bit of peace.

I’ve made a lot of calls to ask for help from friends and mentors on advice, and I’m very grateful to have people who can listen, ask questions, give both unbiased and opinionated advice on how I should take action in many areas of my life.

Savvy Idea: Setting clear goals and outcomes for a project will ensure taking the best actions that align with success.

Last week, I was talking with my principal engineer over a new system we were testing in preparation for the holiday seasons (which has the highest traffic that can break our systems), and one thing we talked a lot about was what would define success?

This system we were testing was not like the usual services we had, and so it was important for us to define success differently.

If we define success correctly, we would have a smooth holiday season and be at peace.

If we don’t define success correctly, we would end up testing the wrong thing, get a false positive, and not be prepared for when the real-life situation showed up.

In the same way, whenever starting a project, running a new initiative, or making a decision, it is important to think about what success is.

Laying out the correct requirements ensures that the result is expected.

It ensures all actions taken will align with success.

By defining success correctly, there is greater confidence, clear direction, and more likely peace with the results of decisions that are made.

Greetings from Austin! 👋 Let’s jump right in!

This past week has been quiet tiring.

There isn’t more things to do, but the things that need to be hashed out seem to take more energy out of me.

I’ve had to cancel bookings I had prepared for podcast interviews, as I was slammed with many different meetings and events throughout the weeks, and it wasn’t easy to admit that I had overloaded myself and needed to pause before burnout.

Fortunately, I got to spend a bit of time reflecting and even redefining some success (sounds familiar 👀) for my podcast and other initiatives, as well as let go of control of the rush of completing tasks.

Speaking of completing tasks, I submitted my first two orders on Fiverr for someone to create a podcast cover art, and a podcast intro viral jingle! Looking forward to the results on that!

Savvy Idea: Find peace and energy by closing unfinished projects with takeaways and learnings, to remove stress and bring more focus to current projects.

I was discussing with an entrepreneur about techniques on productivity in preparation for a work session together, and one technique we talked about was the importance of closing up projects.

One struggle that we can have is wanting to work on too many projects, ending up with too many unfinished projects in the backlog.

As a person who loves to start projects, I found that the more projects I had, the less focus and energy I had to focus on the task at hand. I faced decision paralysis.

One thing that is important with working on projects is tying up the loose ends with projects, even if they’re “failed” or “unfinished”.

Ending a project by writing down learning points & takeaways allows for closing the loop on any feeling of incompletion, helps bring peace to the mind knowing that a project is finished, and allows that energy to be allocated to things that are more present and important.

• Can you think of learnings & takeaways to close the loop for these projects?

I’ve been getting so much more sleep this past week, and so much less exercise, that I’ve been trying to take time to go and be active. Basketball and ping pong has been my early adopters for now for exercise, and hopefully next week I can get into the rhythm of working out again. 🤞

Outside of that, some quick updates:

• Booked my first podcast recording for this coming week!

• Recruited for my company at UT Austin and UTD (virtual 1:1s is tiring 😫)

• Got groceries so I was able to host people and cook with/for them! (my joy)

• I got a lot of good quality time with people I love and care for (friends, life group, business peeps)

• Finished two books, “The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry” (review) and “You Win in the Locker Room First” (review).

Savvy Idea: You cannot pour out if you are not being poured into.

This past week, I was talking with a friend who was burned out.

He shared about how he was pouring out to people continuously, but not finding any opportunity to get rest and receive personally.

As someone who relates with focusing on other’s needs over my own, I didn’t know how to overcome this obstacle until a friend of mine shared how to visualize it with cups and water.

The idea is that we each are like cups, containing different capacities of helping people (the water).

When we pour out water to other people’s cups, our cups get drained a bit.

When we pour too much, we end up with an empty cup, and we are unable to help others.

The problem is sometimes people still are asking to be poured out to when we are empty cups.

What’s important for us is to find opportunities to be filled also. To be poured into.

Whether it’s spending time by ourselves, finding friends to be a listening ear, or having mentors share wisdom and guidance, by being poured into, we will be able to refill our capacity and have the ability to pour out to others.

Hello friends,

Greetings from Austin! 👋 Let’s jump right in!

This past weekend at home for Labor Day taught me two things:

1. The suburbs is so quiet (compared to a college campus)

2. I need my sleep 😴

Fortunately, I got a good amount of rest while I was at home, and I change my room in my apartment to be more optimal for rest!

(One side note, I have been focusing so much on sleep, I have not been waking up early, and it’s a shame 🙁 I have less me time to spend time with God, on my side projects, or be refreshed before I take on a day of work… something to improve on!)

Labor day updates aside, we had our first Life Group this past weekend, and it was such a blessing! Being able to hear how people want to grow in their relationship with God, and to hear them take that extra step beyond what they want to grow in was refreshing!

College Ministry doesn’t seem to get old (even though I do 🧓), and I always feel challenged as a leader to continue in the faith and be real in all that is done.

We’ll see where this year goes!

Finally, regarding the podcast, I haven’t been able to make too many strides, besides reorienting the room for a better background setup. I think the big thing now is to schedule/book people to speak to! 🎙️

Savvy Idea: You won’t reach people if you don’t impact how they feel, as people are emotional creatures, and will remember emotions over logic.

This past week, I was working on my podcast, and I learned I had been focusing on the wrong thing.

One of the biggest problems I had been facing over the past couple of weeks was figuring out my audience for the podcast. With a specific audience to focus on, I could figure out what value I could offer, book the right guests, and start interviewing people.

As I was talking to a coach of mine, I realized that I had focused too much on the product, and not enough time on the feeling people would takeaway.

One of the books I’ve read, E-Myth Revisited, mentions that the main thing you’re selling to people is a feeling, not a product.

People are emotional creatures and will tie a feeling to a product.

In other words, if your product, service, or business, doesn’t have a focal takeaway point for people on how they feel, you will not make an impact.

When I worked at Audible for an internship, and their offering of audiobooks is amazing, but they have a vibrant community surrounding the company because of their focus on customer service. They make customers feel cared for and special.

This makes me think of other companies that focus on the feelings their customers have:

• Chick-fil-a, with values of Christianity, wow’s people with their customer service and countless “my pleasures”

• Audible, one of the companies I work with, boasts having 2 hour long calls in customer service listening and caring for their audiobook fanatics

• Trader Joe’s outshines with their uniquely branded stores for each separate location, quality products, and the nautical symbolism of their bells.

All these companies boast an environment that provides their audience with a positive feeling associated with the brand, causing them to go back for more.

In the end, what people will remember over time will not involve a memory callback to the product, but to the feelings the product produces, because emotions is king.

I’m currently back at home for Labor Day weekend!

It’s been fun so far being able to be home, and when I reflect on the past week, it’s been wild.

Unfortunately, with all the stuff I’ve been doing, I’ve started to feel burned out (ironic as the last post I wrote about burnout)

Anyways, here are some quick-fire updates:

• We finished up our Campus Missions Week for church and met a lot of amazing new peeps

• I finished video editing my July 4th trip with my friends (shown below)

• Pivoted my podcast from focusing on leveling up to talking about how to be calm amidst storms in life (great host notes for asking questions)

• I got a mic arm, which means higher quality mic set up for work and podcasts

• Did a 5K run with several other friends

Savvy Idea: Be aware of the time you spend on what you need, have, and want to do, or else you’ll experience burnout.

Recently, I was catching up with a friend, and we talked about the dangers of burnout.

I shared with her the best way to prevent burnout is to know where you’re time is going in order to prevent it.

You won’t be able to stop burnout if you don’t know where you’re time is going.

There are three main areas time will disappear to:

• Activities you need to do in order to survive (food, sleep, soul-focused activities)

• Activities you have committed to (job, school, responsibilities)

• Activities you want to do that are not required (hobbies, Netflix, extracurriculars)

Focusing and prioritizing these activities is important to have a healthy fulfilled life.

Hello friends,

Greetings from Austin! 👋 Let’s jump right in!

It’s been a busy week. I’ve been focused on three big things while working my full-time job:

1. Doing outreach and event planning/execution for our church’s college outreach week

2. Fleshing out as much of my podcast as I can (audience, workflow, etc…)

3. Meeting with people for life advice on trajectories in life

It’s been fun as each day has been full trying to juggle all these different activities on my plate.

Regarding faith, there are a lot of students who are on campus who are curious or seeking greater ownership of faith after a long period of the pandemic being stuck at home and thinking about life.

This season is so important for us as a ministry & church to be available and not pass by on the opportunity of meeting others where they’re at and share who we are and what we believe in.

Additionally, as a spiritual leader, I’ve gotten to see a lot of fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, whether students or fellow leaders, take on greater ownership of their faith and take steps of obedience in how they lead activities.

It’s been a blessing to see growth in people’s lives in many areas, whether taking care of responsibilities, leading small groups, or serving in whatever capacity they can for others.

(Ahhhh, I love college ministry and all that comes with it)

Outside of faith, I’ve had a lot of amazing conversations with people this past week involving the podcast!

I met a podcast guru with whom I got to barter a bit on skills so I could get podcast help.

And I got to meet with a productivity consultant coach who helped me flesh out more direction on who my audience may be.

Finally, on a more personal note, I’ve been blessed to be able to have several life mentors to help me brainstorm on what direction I go in life.

Having people who are willing to soundboard my ideas and check my sanity on where I’m trying to go, whether with my projects, career, or life decisions, has been so helpful, and I am very grateful for the times with these people!

Savvy Idea: Rather than doing everything yourself, when you learn to delegate, you’re able to focus and get things done, rather than get stuck tinkering through the process.

As I’m trying to flesh out my podcast, I’m learning that there’s only so many things I can do with my time.

Podcasting has so many layers to flesh out, such as the audio quality, video editing (if I upload to Youtube), how to book guests, what softwares to use, and how to build out website and marketing channels to promote it.

I find myself having to fight against “Shiny Object Syndrome”, which is the tendency to get into the rabbit hole of new things without evaluating their benefit.

I recognize that though it can be fun to go in the rabbit hole, in order to get things done and be effective with my time, I need to delegate.

Rather than:

• doing all the graphic design

• figuring out all the audio editing

• or fleshing out the social media posts myself

By:

• hiring an expert to create them assets

• asking for advice from people who’ve edited audio before

• or analyzing the social media forms people have created already

I don’t have to get lost in the process of tinkering and figuring things out.

Instead, I can focus on what is really important—getting things done!

By learning to delegate, you can free up time that would’ve been used to work on things that are not enjoyable or important, and focus on what you actually enjoy and see as important.

• What can you delegate so you won’t tinker and focus on what needs to be done?

This past week has been quite hectic.

Getting ready for Campus Missions Week, which is our church’s college outreach week at UT Austin, and executing training and events has been tiring but good! Lots of growth all around in faith and leadership, and even as people are challenged, I can see a lot of seeds sown that will produce fruit not only in character for all of us but also in being able to meet a lot of cool people and invite them out to church!

Amidst the craziness of ministry, I’ve been able to talk to an expert productivity flow coach, who helped me flesh out a lot of my podcast workflow! (displayed below)

Additionally, a friend let me borrow his blue yeti, so my online experience for others has upgraded a notch, and I’m excited to use it for the podcast!

Savvy Idea: Find books, resources, or people who have paved the path so and learn from them so you don’t have to make the same mistakes and be ahead of the game.

Why climb to the top of a mountain when you can stand on the shoulder of giants?

Why create a map from scratch when someone else already has walked the terrain?

Why travel the road less traveled when there is a path already paved?

There is value to learning how to do things from scratch, but in life, we only have so much time. You can only become an expert at so many things. The rest you must learn to learn from others on. To trust experts.

When I started this newsletter, even though I had to create a lot of content, I followed the frameworks of other email newsletters I read.

When I work on a landing page website, I look at the styles other people created to see what colors I can utilize to make better.

When I look at launching a podcast by the end of 2021, I’ve been asking many people who’ve launched and worked on podcasts their workflow and processes as well as addressed their fears of starting it.

By looking at other people’s walk-in life—their stories, frameworks and processes—I’ve been able to learn how to not make the same mistakes and advance without having to spend years figuring out the process.

It takes humility and courage to ask others for help, but by doing so, I learn I give others the opportunity to give back and find myself elevated to work more effectively and efficiently at the ventures I aim to work on.

Zoom Meetings Page Auto Closer

The title says it all.

A quick game-changing chrome extension that automatically closes the page used to launch Zoom meetings and restores focus to the tab you were on before Zoom opened!

I’ve never looked back at closing my tabs manually!

I learned that starting an LLC, setting up a will, or getting any legal help is pretty easy now with LegalZoom.

All you have to do is select an option, answer a few questions and get paired with an attorney for legal help! Prices aren’t too bad, considering what you’re getting!

Spyfu Keyword Research

As I’ve been preparing my podcast, I’ve been learning how to market research different keywords.

Spyfu has a great keyword search tool in order to see what people are searching for and the difficulty of a given search term in comparison to competition. Great to make informed decisions for SEO!’

Hello friends,

Greetings from Austin! 👋 Let’s jump right in!

Lots of exciting updates happened recently 🙂 I’ve moved into my new apartment, which doubled my bedroom size, and I upgraded from a twin-sized to a queen-sized bed.

Though lots of stuff are still being unpacked, it’s nice to have my own place after being nomadic for two weeks. I enjoyed the quality time with people who hosted me (maybe one day, I’ll do a year of this 🤔), and definitely recognize how fortunate I am to have friends who will host me.

Living situations aside, I’ve made a lot more headway with my podcast! I’ve been able to learn from people who’ve worked on podcasts and started fleshing out the flow to launch the podcast by end of 2021.

I’ve also been fleshing out the purpose and audience for the podcast. I know there are a lot of marketing/business/self-development podcasts out there, but I hope to figure out a way to get my personal message out to empower and help others. Growing up, there was a lot of stuff I had to figure out on my own, and so any opportunity to make things easier for others is a huge calling I feel (whether business, relationships or life).

Savvy Idea: Accepting perfection is not possible, and knowing you’re always a “work in progress” allows for grace and provides peace.

But the most important thing is doing stuff, not because it will get you hired, but do it because you want to:

If you’re going to do that stuff do it because you want to develop those skills and share with and learn from the world—don’t just do it because you think it’s a critical path to being hired.

Got to play this game while at an entrepreneur’s home, and it was an amazing way to connect with many new people!

It really opened an opportunity to share stories and discuss topics most people wouldn’t talk about in normal conversation. Definitely a game I plan to get as an icebreaker and for hosting parties!

Hello friends,

Greetings from Austin! 👋 Let’s jump right in!

This past weekend, I got to close out of my church‘s Life Group in Anahuac, TX, and that was a blast! We enjoyed nature, ran away from bugs in nature (the spiders were huge), chilled next to a campfire, and enjoyed an amazing cabin.

One of my favorite parts was when we shared our reflections from the summer. We studied the Armor of God, and it was amazing seeing how we were challenged and equipped to fight against our fears and vices and find confidence in not our own ability, but what God provided us.

I definitely left that time teary-eyed and thankful to God for all He got to do for us all throughout summer. *sniffles

Church stuff aside, this week I got to spend quality time at a couple of friend’s house. Playing lots of Smash, late-night drives, and good talks makes me cherish moments where even though I’m nomadic, I get to grow in my bond with others.

Will be sad once I move to my new place, but grateful to always have people I know I can turn to.

Final thoughts, I’ve been taking more action in working on the plan for my podcast.

I’m in progress for figuring out my specific niche and my goals out of it! I’ve gotten to find software to create audio visualization, researched into Fiverr/Upwork on audio editors, and have a few name ideas for the podcast (Level Up Lee Podcast?).

Savvy Idea: By compounding small wins, you can gain momentum to complete goals that feel large & insurmountable.

Recently, I’ve been trying to flesh out a plan for a podcast, and I found myself overwhelmed with the big picture needed to be completed.

I found myself facing a lot of fears.

The fear of being imperfect.

The fear of not having all things planned out.

The fear of not doing well.

All these fears made working on the project feel insurmountable.

As I was reflecting on these fears, an enterpreneur shared to me the importance of taking small wins.

Focus on the big picture is important, but in order to not become overwhelmed, it’s important work in smaller increments.

Taking a large task or project, and breaking it into smaller chunks make it easier to digest.

By taking wins through smaller tasks, they can build up momentum in order to take on larger tasks and achieve big wins.

Currently I’m with my Life Group to closeout for the summer. We’re planning to have lots of fun, fellowship, and reflection, and I’m excited for what God has in store for us!

That aside, I’ve moved out of my apartment, and I’ve become nomadic (and will be) for the next couple weeks.

It’s an awesome opportunity to have quality time by staying over several friend’s places! (10/10 would recommend)

Savvy Idea: A healthy dose of reality can help us take realistic steps to get closer to achieving our dreams.

I was talking with a friend about the future, and realized how easily disillusioned we can be with our dreams.

There’s nothing wrong with dreams. It’s important to have dreams to help us push forward in life. They build up the intrinsic motivation that gives us perspective and direction in the things we do.

But we are also in need of a healthy dose of reality to help manifest that direction.

We can believe one thing when reality calls for another.

We cannot make a leap to our dreams without an understanding of reality.

By learning how the system of reality works, and seeing your dreams in tandem with reality, you can slowly figure out if your dream has a shot at becoming integrated into mainstream reality.

This feels like it dampens your dream, but it actually gives greater probability of success and not accidentally fall for a pipe dream in the things you do.

Of course, all this may take some time, but it sure beats wasting time trying to force reality onto our dreams. And it’s so much more effective to try to move our dreams slowly into reality.

Savvy Idea: Knowing “What keeps you up at night” will reveal your why and what you should focus on.

Everyone has a why on this earth.

A purpose that is deeply set in them, whether planted in them through their family or through their environment growing up (positive or negative).

One key to unlocking that why is recognizing what keeps you up at night.

What do you constantly think about that you just can’t let go?

For me, every night, I think about several things:

• My faith: How am I living out my faith to exemplify Christ?

• My passion: How am I able to help others with the skills and experiences I have?

• My future: How am I able to set myself up so that I can seize any opportunity that aligns with my vision?

I think of these things for several reasons:

• As a Christian, it’s important for me to be a living testimony and show to others what a personal relationship with God looks like, and invite them into it.

• As an entrepreneur, I strongly believe that I can only help people as much as I am equipped to help others. The more I know myself, the better I can help.

• As a person, I want to be set up for the best opportunities that fall in line with my vision.

I learned a lot of this through reflection, but it wasn’t until I looked at what I thought about before I slept that I realized these deep desires.

Those reasons above are why I work on this newsletter, create content, and do my best in every interaction (group or individually) to help others.

And for you - every entrepreneur, every business owner, every independent creator, every person on this earth - I hope you can recognize your why, and know what keeps you up.

Discover it, unlock it, and you will be able to focus and pursue in the direction of what I believe will bring great impact to this world.

My reframed question made it easier for students to raise their hands. It made it clear that the material was difficult and I expected there to be questions. With this reframing, my desired outcome (more questions from students) became the norm—not the exception.

• Visual

• Kinesthetic

One thing noted is that though people have preferred learning styles, everyone learns the best with multi-modal learning.

This reveals the complexity of people - there are multiple different ways of understanding the same thing.

Hello friends,

Greetings from Austin! 👋 Let’s jump right in!

This week has been full of networking and meeting awesome people.

Through the people I’ve met, I’ve been inspired to set out and do several things this weekend:

• Create a high-level strategy diagram for a podcast

• Create an accountability group with like-minded individuals

• Edit a vlog for my Florida trip from the July 4th weekend (installed Davinci Resolve)

I hope to share snippets of the results of each of these over the next couple of weeks.

Besides that, I’ve learned from Noah Kagan’s Youtube video on 13 Millionaires Habits That Changed My Life several things, (one of them I applied above). You can watch it below:

One of them involves sharing goals for the week for accountability.

The second involves asking for feedback from people close to you, like close friends, spouses, or roommates. I’ve been able to ask several people in my life, and that has been eye-opening and, I believe, fruitful in the long run.

We’ll see what habits, as what’s important isn’t starting habits, but keeping to them and sustaining them.
