Savvy Idea: Knowing “What keeps you up at night” will reveal your why and what you should focus on.

Everyone has a why on this earth.

A purpose that is deeply set in them, whether planted in them through their family or through their environment growing up (positive or negative).

One key to unlocking that why is recognizing what keeps you up at night.

What do you constantly think about that you just can’t let go?

For me, every night, I think about several things:

  • My faith: How am I living out my faith to exemplify Christ?

  • My passion: How am I able to help others with the skills and experiences I have?

  • My future: How am I able to set myself up so that I can seize any opportunity that aligns with my vision?

I think of these things for several reasons:

  • As a Christian, it’s important for me to be a living testimony and show to others what a personal relationship with God looks like, and invite them into it.

  • As an entrepreneur, I strongly believe that I can only help people as much as I am equipped to help others. The more I know myself, the better I can help.

  • As a person, I want to be set up for the best opportunities that fall in line with my vision.

I learned a lot of this through reflection, but it wasn’t until I looked at what I thought about before I slept that I realized these deep desires.

Those reasons above are why I work on this newsletter, create content, and do my best in every interaction (group or individually) to help others.

And for you - every entrepreneur, every business owner, every independent creator, every person on this earth - I hope you can recognize your why, and know what keeps you up.

Discover it, unlock it, and you will be able to focus and pursue in the direction of what I believe will bring great impact to this world.

“So I decided to run an experiment. Instead of asking, “Does anyone have any questions?,” I began to say, “I’ll now take your questions,” or even better, “The material we just covered was confusing, and I’m confident there are plenty of you with questions. This is a great time to ask them.”

My reframed question made it easier for students to raise their hands. It made it clear that the material was difficult and I expected there to be questions. With this reframing, my desired outcome (more questions from students) became the norm—not the exception.

The Biggest Myth in Education

There are 4 types of learning styles:

  • Visual

  • Auditory

  • Reading/Writing

  • Kinesthetic

One thing noted is that though people have preferred learning styles, everyone learns the best with multi-modal learning.

This reveals the complexity of people - there are multiple different ways of understanding the same thing.

Personal life stuff… 🔔

Hello friends,

Greetings from Austin! 👋 Let’s jump right in!

This week has been full of networking and meeting awesome people.

Through the people I’ve met, I’ve been inspired to set out and do several things this weekend:

  • Create a high-level strategy diagram for a podcast

  • Create an accountability group with like-minded individuals

  • Edit a vlog for my Florida trip from the July 4th weekend (installed Davinci Resolve)

I hope to share snippets of the results of each of these over the next couple of weeks.

Besides that, I’ve learned from Noah Kagan’s Youtube video on 13 Millionaires Habits That Changed My Life several things, (one of them I applied above). You can watch it below:

One of them involves sharing goals for the week for accountability.

The second involves asking for feedback from people close to you, like close friends, spouses, or roommates. I’ve been able to ask several people in my life, and that has been eye-opening and, I believe, fruitful in the long run.

We’ll see what habits, as what’s important isn’t starting habits, but keeping to them and sustaining them.
